The pellets are loaded into a hopper and then into a firebox beneath the grill, with an electric powered auger, functioning using a thermostat. An electric rod ignites the pellets, until they turn into coal inside the firebox. The types of pellet grills you are likely to find have a square shaped hopper box at the side or at the end.
