Migraine Affecting Family Members
While migraine headache sufferers are the subject of many articles, the effect of the migraine on family members is rarely discussed. Migraine symptoms vary but the debilitating pain is common. Stress levels increase for the entire family when one member is in pain. This is well documented in hospice cases but is neglected in migraine research. Children are particularly affected as they feel helpless to help the pain sufferer and sometimes fail to understand the cause of the pain. They can internalize the cause and blame themselves for pain returning. This, in turn, can cause migraines in the child.
