Data Mining, Business Intelligence, and Advanced Analytics

There are subtle differences between data mining, business intelligence, and advanced analytics that many companies may not be aware of. However, to take full advantage of all these resources, it is important to understand the distinctions.

Data mining, like advanced analytics, is an automated process that sorts through huge volumes of raw data. However, advanced analytics tries to provide a basis for a better interpretation of the information, whereas data mining simply looks for patterns or sequences within the data.

Traditional business intelligence, on the other hand, tries to provide information for making important business decisions. It differs from analytics though because it focuses on what is actually happening at this moment while the analytics process is a tool for predicting trends and behavior.
